[NEW in 2019] “There is considerable evidence that the primary difference between good and poor readers lies in the good reader’s phonological processing ability.” Lyon, 2015
Understanding the development of the four levels of phonological awareness is foundational to teaching students to read. This session focuses on what the phonological awareness continuum is and how to use it to inform instructional decisions in the classroom. Participants will also walk away with 2-3 minute explicit routines to use with students that are based on the four levels of phonological awareness. [NEW in 2019] This session is intended to be an extension to the Bringing the Literacy Block to Life through Culturally Responsive, Data-Driven Instruction session. During our time, we will continue to explore how assessments and curriculum work together in service of equitable outcomes for all students through exploring instructional coherence in literacy. In addition, we will also spend time planning for how assessment and curriculum systems in a literacy come to life in your buildings.
